Mechanical Design Engineer
The Job:
You will report directly to and work closely with the Technical Manager, the sales team, and manufacturing team within the client's manufacturing group.
You will be responsible for the design of special materials handling projects for the heavy engineering sector within the UK and abroad. You will be responsible for planning and supervising your own project work and take designs from conception through to the issue of detailed manufacturing drawings to the manufacturing department. You will need to be able to liaise with the manufacturing department and/or site teams during the manufacturing/installation of the equipment to give technical advice should any problem occur.
You will be able to use AutoCAD to produce design and manufacturing drawings.
Objectives:
The Technical/Design Department has a number of key objectives:
· To produce quality and safe designs in a timely manner and ensure traceability
· To produce cost effective designs without a compromise in quality of safety
· To assist the sales team with technical advice and conceptual design assistance
· To assist and support the manufacturing and site installation teams
· To identify and manage risks within the design
· To achieve zero defects in both our own and subcontractor work
· To develop designs to have a reputation as a market leader within our client's sector
Key Responsibilities:
1. Implement engineering designs in compliance with Health and Safety Legislation
2. Receive, interpret and implement the requirements of the Technical Manager
3. Be actively involved in the interpretation and developments of the customer`s design requirements for both the tender process and the contractual design stage
4. Ensure that project and company quality procedures are implemented at all times
5. Ensure that all relevant documentation is produced in compliance with legislation, company procedures, codes and standards and customer requirements
6. Apply engineering principles in the preparation of calculations, specifications, reports, design drawings and other documentation
7. Provide relevant technical information when required for the delivery of design and/or construction.
8. Carry out, check and where authorised approve all necessary calculations, specifications, reports, design drawings and other documentation to produce working designs for issue to the manufacturing department
9. Identify and resolve non-conformances at an early stage whenever possible
10. Be able to manage and supervise own projects and workload under the guidance of the Technical Manager
